Join Us At the Hiwassee River Blueway on Cherokee Crossing July 20th. for the following events:
9 a.m. "Duck Race For Charity": 1,000 purchased ducks will travel down the Hiwassee on their way to the Blueway. The owner of the first duck to reach the finish line wins the proceeds for their charity and a two night luxury stay at Hiwassee Acres Retreat on the Hiwassee. Watch more than 30 duck riders escort the smaller ducks down the river to the finish line.
10 a.m. Cardboard Boat Regatta. Race your boat across the Hiwassee for a variety of prizes. Awards given to race winners, best decorated boat and the best sinking. (rules and regulations below).
10 a.m. Hiwassee Queen Excursions: Travel up the Hiwassee and see its scenic beauty, wildlife, and learn of its historical and recreational significance. Excursions leave on the hour till 3 p.m.
10 a.m. 1st. Tour of the Hidden Meadows: Let Joe Guy, McMinn County Sheriff and Historian, lead you down the beautiful Hiwassee River to the Hidden Meadows. This 10 acre lake was once the site in 1838 of a detainment camp that held 3,000 North Carolina Cherokees during the Trail of Tears Removal. The Hidden Meadows contains an abundance of wildlife, crystal clear spring fed waters, and trees estimated to be 250 years old. The site is reached from the Hiwassee via a series of tunnels and channels. Participants must have an approved life vest and paddle. A limited number of canoes and kayaks will be available along with life vests for those who do not have their own.
Noon: 2nd. Tour of the Hidden Meadows led by Joe Guy
2 p.m. 3rd. Tour of the Hidden Meadows led by Calhoun Historians Laura Spann and Joe Bryan
9 p.m. p.m. "Glow With the Flow". This tour led by Joe Guy will take canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards to the Hidden Meadows. This night time adventure will offer participants the opportunity to travel through the tunnels and channels that will lead to a 10 acre lake. Spooky, but exciting....canoes, kayaks and paddle boards will be decorated with glow sticks and lanterns provided by the City of Calhoun. All participants must wear approved life vests and have a paddle. ( a minimum number will be provided).
All events are free. Food and cold icy treats will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Events During RIVER TOWN FESTIVAL DAYS
March 23-"Take the Plunge"....plunge into the Hiwassee River at 10 a.m. and earn money for your charity
April 20-"Celebrate Spring" at the annual Craft Show and a day of music and food at the Hiwassee Meadowland Park 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
May 11-"Run to the River" sponsored by Calhoun School
May 18-"Beat the Heat"...cookout, corn hole tournament and games and waterslides at the Hiwassee Meadowlands starting at 5 p.m.
June 14-"Keep It Cool"...homemade ice cream contest with games, waterslides and ice cream for all starting at 5 p.m.
July 20-"Rollin' On the River"...duck race for charity, cardboard boat regatta, river excursions on the Hiwassee Queen, kayak and canoe trips to the Hidden Meadows....starting at 9 a.m. "Glow With the Flow" at 9 p.m.
July 21- 2nd. "Glow With the Flow" excursion at 9 p.m.
